How about making your own poteen? With Bob’s new little stove you could easily rig up a still… the Barley sugar & yeast are all lightweight…

An instructional video could be made and popped on the Outdoors Station.

Lighter than the tripod idea…

can u draw? how about some sketches? I only ask cos I can’t, but would love to, and I love seeing others sketches of their travels.
I enjoyed doing my audio diary of the HRP, I didn’t do it everyday and only when it felt right, it wasn’t a chore more like keeping myself company by talking into a mic

your photos are always worth seeing tho, so if u can face a tripod…..

On hikes, I have a similar routine of taking notes as you do, Andy. Last summer, however, for the first time I tried taking audio notes on a small battery powered MP3 player. It can’t compete in terms of aesthetics, but I liked that this way of taking notes is much faster and also that I could use vocal means of expression.

Since before the Internet Andy! I have notebooks going back to the late 1970s. Before Alwych I used Challenge oilskin notebooks, which I don’t think are available anymore. Occasionally I’ve tried other notebooks but I’ve always returned to Alwych.

My favourite example of trail journalling in recent times has been Condor’s awesome Pacific Crest Trail moleskine journals – http://www.thehikeguy.com/2011/11/10/pct-moleskines/

For overnighters I haven’t found a notebook necessary but hopefully I’ll be out doing some longer backpacks this year and that is when I will probably take along either a notebook or a small video recorder. In daily life I always have a moleskine with me.
