This was my rendezvous point with Alan Callow on Thursday evening, glenmore Campsite. I was last here 18 months ago on the TGO Challenge. I walked in with Mike knipe. We had a lovely afternoon strolling through the Rothimurcus forest and putting the NHS right. That evening I lay in my tent and heard an odd sound. It was Mike. He was listening to his iPod and singing along, heartily! I think he was listening to classic rock from the 80′s. Afctet the singing Mike serenaded me to sleep with his gentle snores!
Cut to last Thursday. I camped in exactly the same place. Next to me was a car tent with a couple who I would guess would be in their mid fifties. They seemed nice enough and I had a chat with the guy who told me this was their last evening, they were off back to Aberdeen in the morning. Alan arrived and he and I toddled off to Glenmore Lodge bar for couple of hours. When we got back it was still early although everyone was tucked up in their tents. And then the neighbours started.
She was quite mad, completely pissed and possibly suffering from some serious mental health problems. She ranted and raged, shouted and swore like a trooper all night long. At one point she clearly started hitting and beating her partner. It was one long and scary evening. Despite complaints she kept up this tirade against her companion throughout most of the night. There’s nothing worse than facing a long walk the next morning when you haven’t had any sleep!
We were off before they stirred in the morning, but this is their tent and car. Memorise them well!
Mike, I shall never complain about you iPod accompaniment again!
