Suddenly it seems as if there might not be so much TGO planning left to do and things seem to be coming together in the usual kind of last-minute way. Last minute supplies from Bob C arrived on time — just got to hope the new Inov-8s arrive tomorrow (don’t know what I’m going to do if they don’t).
Next Thursday I’ll have half a day to spend in Inverness. years ago I remember visiting a Loch Ness monster museum, which I remember as being full of rather engaging nuttters. But what else is there to do in Inverness? Shall be off the sleeper at 8.30 and will then search for breakfast, but this still leaves most of a morning.
I seem to recall that Inverness is Europe’s fastest growing city. There must surely be something there to do – or why woould everyone be going there to live?
Google it – Oh there is one really good hairdresser there in the pedestrian main street who doles out glasses of wine rather than the ubiquitous cappucino. So much better!
I seem to remember the hair dresser from your LEJOG blogs. Trust Sloman, I thought, to find the only wine giving barber in the UK!
The last time I was there — other than to switch trains — was almost 20 years ago. Apart from the lovely but mad (mainly American) volunteers at the Nessie museum, all I remember is grey. And a horrible lunch.
But as you said, it must have more to offer now!
On my infrequent trips to Inverness for the dentist (the closest practice I could register with is over 85 miles away)I always ened up in Leakeys Secondhand Bookshop. It is in a converted church and you can spend hours in there. If it is cold and damp outside there is a wonderful open fire inside as well as great cafe.
Google it!
What a great book shop Andrew. Definitely worth a visit. A morning may not be enough !!!
