One of my favourite routes up onto Long Mynd (or down from it as the case may be), runs along the lovely valley of Ashes Hollow. Anyone coming this way will have wondered about the future of the house/cottage that sits at the bottom of the hollow, up from the camp site.
It’s been sad to see this cottage crumbling over the years. I was delighted to see, this weekend, that somebody has seen the potential of the house and has taken the plunge top refurbish it.

Hi Andy
Just come across your photo of the cottages at Ashes Hollow – delighted you mention, last Sept, it’s being refurbished. Any idea what’s happened. My great-grandparents lived there, Henry Lewis and his wife Mary, brought up their family, including my paternal grandmother. Visited a few years back, the aged farmer wanted it demolished but foreman was all for saving it – glad that’s happening.

Roma,
I don’t know the story, there’s never been anyone there when I’ve passed — but I’ll try again soon. It is a big renovation but it will be a lovely place to live when it is finished!
thank you for your interest in this cottage, i took on the challenge of renovating this cottage 3 years ago and it is still on ongoing project. i have recently opened a a tea garden on weekends and bank holidays, weather permitting.
