The weather here (in the UK) is unseasonably warm, so much so that my daydreams have left Scotland behind and have deposited themselves on some coastal path or another. I’m not sure which path to dream about really, it could be the South West Coastal Path or it could be Pembrokeshire.
It’s got me thinking about an ultra light, wildcamping trip to Pembrokeshire later in the year – hazy, sunny days, gentle breezes, lovely beaches, the smell of ozone in the nostrils lots of wood for the new stove ….
… who needs mountains!
Hi Andy,Yes the weather has been incredibly warm and I managed to get away for a great nights camping at Little Stretton.A lovely walk up Ashes Hollow to Pole Bank and then down to Church Stretton via Cardingmill Valley. Then back to the campsite via Ragleth Hill. Not quite as far as your own recent walk in this area.Nice pint in the Ragleth pub together with good meal.Very few people around mid week and thats the way I like it.Now catching up on my E Mails and still waiting to hear about your new tent.Don’t keep us waiting too long!
REGARDS JEFF
And don’t forget the smell of fresh fish cooking on the stove, the sea food poached in wine, the wild herbs, and a bag of chips from the other side of the road
Jeff,
We must have just missed each other!

Bob,
All that on a backpacking stove. We must get our coastal trip organised. But the Challenge is looming large !!!
Hi Andy, thanks for your reply. With being away for a couple of days I hadn’t been looking at your blog on a daily basis and therefore didn’t realise that you had already done a posting on the new tent.I was on the campsite at Little Stretton on Wednesday night.18/04 It had crossed my mind to wildcamp in Ashes Hollow but I was trying out for the very first time a ME Dragonfly tent which I purchased at the ME sale in Glossop last May for the incredibly low price of £100.It came without pegs and was classed as a Seconds. It looks absolutely perfect but only time & a real testing in wet weather will tell.Anyway worth a gamble at that price.I must say that the walking on the Long Mynd & Ragleth hill was absolutely superb and I can understand why you enjoy this area so much.REGARDS JEFF
Jeff, the tent sounds a bargain. There are a lot of good places to wildcamp on Ashes Hollow. When it’s quite and I arrive late I tend to just camp near the path but at one of the better, higher, spots there is actually a quieter path the runs off to the right and that is pretty good.
I love this area because it is so close and convenient to me. But the mixture of high uplands and heather moor and those lovely small undulating hills and fields is superb.
