Spring Conference - Registration Fiasco

By Andy | January 22, 2008

Sometimes I really wonder what kind of image our party is trying to present to the world.

I’ve just started the process to register for Spring conference. I say started because I don’t have all of the security data to detail, i.e. driving licence number; NI number; passport number ….

Birmingham’s International Convention Centre is an interesting venue not least because it is able to cope with extraordinarily levels of security. Each week I pass through the ICC’s public mall and pass all kinds of conferences on all kinds of subjects. I’ve been to more than my fair share of conferences here. But I doubt any of the other delegates I’ve passed in the mall have had to go through such a security check.

Of course, there will be Ministers of State present and - if lucky enough - we’ll be able to share the same space with them. But do we really need all of this stuff?

It seems to me that this kind of registration process is unnecessarily complicated for a Party event.

Do we want to encourage people to take part in events or not? (On second thoughts I don’t really want to consider the real answer ….)

Oh, and it will all cost me £50.

I tell you what, let’s all go out and build a mass party ….

(And let’s hope all of these details aren’t kept on somebody’s laptop during the conference).

Complete bollocks as they say ’round here.
