This journal describes the 2007 Rab TGO Challenge journey that I undertook with my partner Kate. Our route started in Strathcarron and finished on the East Coast at the lovely seaside village of St. Cyrus.

The writing of the journal serves several purposes. Firstly - in the weeks immediately following the walk - it allows me to relive something of the Challenge experience. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, the journal aims to help those who are interested in attempting the Challenge one day themselves. The two week Challenge is not the most dramatic of treks, but it does work its way through some demanding hiking territory and it is as much a social event as - say - a challenge of navigation and route finding. The social side of the Challenge makes it a very unique event. Lastly, the journal is designed to be entertaining. If you are a hiker, and love the outdoors, than I hope you enjoy reading it.

As a well as a day-by-day account of the trip you will find details of the kit we carried and some ideas and tips about planning and presentation.

15/6/07 - The journal is not quite as well proofed as I would like, but the thing has taken so long to produce I thought I'd put it up anyway. So, your understanding for any typos is appreciated - if you see a really bad one, let me know! I'll be correcting things on a more gradual basis!

19/6/07 - Many thanks to John Yale who has now proofed a large section of this diary. John, you're a star!

As always it is great to hear from you. Please email me with comments and don't hesitate to get in touch if you think I can help with your own planning.
